Please feel free to write something RELATED to class discussion (readings, GG, ideas, etc.). Again, this is especially good for those of you who feel you didn't have a chance to share some ideas in class.

Hello all,
Do you know an audio book?
I took ESL 216: Advanced Reading Practice, half unit class, in Spring 2005. This class was to read a book, to exchange information, and to share feeling with classmates. The book was "Almost a Woman" by Esmeralda Santiago.
At that time, I used an audio book at first time. Listening to the audio book is exactly same to read the book. It was faster than own reading, so I could read twice with listening. Also, I got correct pronunciation. Moreover, it was easy to understand because the reader read with rhythm and modulation.
After that, I am used to read an audio book. Audio books are not cheap, so I borrow them from the library.
Unfortunately, our book, GG, doesn't have an audio book.
I recommend an audio book. Try it if you have a chance.
Tomoko

Hello,ya'll Yesterday, I resaered about Richard Wright. Then, I found interresting thiong about him. The thing is that he was enamered Haiku which is a Japanese poetry. He had written over 4,000 poetries until he passed away. Some students have already known that Haikuis more difficult than typical poetry because we have to think about words carefully when we creat Haiklu. Haiku has pattern which is approximately 5.7.5. which numbers are syllables. For example- Glass balls and glowing lights Dead tree in living room Killed to honor birth -Christmas- by Ron Loeffler Therefore, I feel kinship with him because he loved Japanese poetry.

hello, everyone. I am Nick. Here i want to reply tomoko. I positivly agree with Tomoko and i want to provide further information. There are Free tutor classes which is at ATC304 for esl students. I believe everyone heard about it. The thing I want to talk about is at ATC 304, there is a class called Soft Ware. Thats one to one tutoring and very useful for students who still learning English. The tutor will teach you how to improve reading by going to some specific web-site. Some web-sides have the same function as "Audio Book", but free and available on web. there also have improve your listening by watching movie trailers and answer some basic questions. Anyway, i suggest everyone should go there see what else program do they provide for esl students. The key thing is, they are " FREE.". So, dont be worried about $. Tust me, its very worth.

(my friend told me it works, but i never try) why do u want to chat? because, u want to tell some1 something, u want to SHOW OFF something to some1. if u know more VOB than other ppl, u can SHOW OFF, too.
hope it can help you... thanks

Hello!! it's Ken i would have to say this class is the best opportunity to practice reading cuz i'm not really like reading. However, i still need to push myself to read and then i will be able to pass this class. Now i feel a little bit better to read. Somehow, i feel there are too much homework, maybe that's because i'm too lazy and i lack of the ability to manage my time. Hope everyone had a good time with them. Good luck and Peace.

Hi everyone This is Charles, I think everyone in this class, and all would like to transfer to university sooner or later. I guess you guys are lucky, therefore you should study more hardly in the all of ESL programs, and you will improve and speak English fluently someday. I wish I could spend much more time at learning English in the US; however I don't have much time, though. I enjoy reading the books, because I can learn many new words from that, besides speaking also quite important. I know there are many of you guys' friends can speak the same language as you, but try it harder to speak English during the class hour (I know that¡¦s kind of hard), it might help. Even though, I am still trying to figure out how to surmount my "bottleneck" at studying English. Good luck everybody, let's fighting!

Hello, everyone: I have sth want to talk about the novel. First of all, the author, and she likes to use the Spanish in it, but i am qutie confused about that. And continuely reading, makes feel me stressful. On the other hand, in this class, the reading way is totally different from what i learnt from 162. I remember that my teacher strongly trained our reading in a quickly way, kept skimming and glancing. Get the important idea, the details are sometimes not necessary. And when i come this class, we always are asked to answer specific questions. For example, in the novel question which is on the green sheet, the title of it is "How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents Pages 3-39 Review." The Question #6,"Why does Yolanda go to such trouble to find fresh picked guavas? What do u think the guavas symlolize?" That confusing me, "do i need to read the book so specificy?" I wonder. Finally,i like free topic it allows me say my opinion. Thank u for reading.

I do read books in my language, but don't read in English very often. When I started reading GG, I was a little disappointed because it didn't seem to be fun. The first chapter has much Spanish in it so I even envied all Spanish-speaking ESL students. I looked for a glossary but there wasn't any. I hated it. It was complicated for me to read the chapter. Fortunately, after that chapter, it got much easier to read because it doesn't have much Spanish in it. The thing is, I missed English when I couldn't understand another language. At that moment, I realized that English has surely become my second language.

I didn't like GG when i first started either, the reason being too many descriptions... But as the story went on you realise there is a story there and curiosity made me to want to finish the chapter. I was reading above about a student that is feeling sleepy each time...maybe reading in a place other then your house or bed would help ....cafeteria, starbucks...i think each person has a different style of reading therefore you need to find out yours. One thing i have noticed though is the fact you can get a pretty good idea of what the story is about as is disscused in class ( a bit too much in detail in my personal opinion ). As far as the presentations goes, i think it would be interesting...i took speech 1 class and trust me....can be a lot of fun. We'll see how it goes...

I guess most of the students like to play games.... playing games is actually a nice method to learn english..haha..of course you have to play english game.. if anyone like to meet new game partner...I'm the one..haha..!!..
