hello guys i am min from Korea. i think all people who live in other country(america,euroup...) thinks that all asian is same like small and so on. therefore some american sometimes ignore us. anyway, all korean think propriety is very imprtant when you meet someone. speciality if you ignore peopriety when you meet someone who is older than you, we think they are so rude. this is the most different part from U.S.A cculture. so, i sometimes feels so bad if i talk with native speakers who in U.S.A.

Hi~ I'm Yuri, from south Korea. In these days, plastic surgery prevails in Korea. Many countries show interest in plastic surgery and actually, some people visit to get plastic surgery to Korea. About several monthes before, BBC broadcasted about Korean plastic surgery and also criticized that Korea is crazy about appearance. Before I experieced it , I didn't think that it was not big deal and harmful as well. When I was working, someone asked me where am I from. After listening my answer that I'm from Korea, she seemed to be surprised and asked me again. "Really? You might get a plastic surgery, right?" Then, she also said that Korean people too much care about their apperance. Even though there's some people who got a plastic surgery in Korea, the medias stereotyped the image of Korean people as all of Korean are crazy about plastic surgery. Also, I think that sometimes, these stereotypes make people hurt their emotional things.

At the end of the story she said she was a lucky one which was she didn¡¯t feel she had struggles again.
What stereotypes are associated with your own ethnic group? Do you see these stereotypes as harmless or harmful? Discuss.
I think in my hometown (Northern China), our stereotypes are not harmful. Because we like to do a lot exercise in the winter, and we eat many healthy food. We like to share all the things, people in my hometown has one bad thing which is they have bad temper for men.

Hi, I am Quynh Mai, I come from Vietnam. there are so many stereotypes for a Vietnamese girls that I could not remember them all. One of them is being cold and passive. The other one is being independent. In my opinion, I really hate them. Maybe, I have lost many things to escape them, but I am happy to be myself. Young American do not respect us because they assume that we are all independent, we are spoiled kids. In their minds, we are all nerves.

I'm from Malaysia. Basically i don't know what kind of stereotype exactly is in my country .But, one thing I have noticed that everyone is kind a curious about my county's religion, race and language. It is because my country has varied ethnic groups of people like Malaysian Chinese,Malays,Indians,Ibans etc...Everyone knows at least 3 languages. So,we have different kind of mother toungues and always speak different kind of languages to each other. Then, the benefit is-- for instance when the teachers doesn't know how to express his/her word in Malay while teaching, then he /she can use another languages like English,Mandatrin,Cantonese etc.... to explain it.. Hence,I think this is one type of stereotype in my country which is no harmful .

Hi, I'm from Japan. Mostly, the modern stereotype is influenced by media. Sometimes it¡Çs harmful, especially on gender issue, but sometimes it's harmless. For example, I rediscovered Japan when I watched the movie called "The Last Samurai." Many people might got assimilate Japanese to samurai by this movie. Compared with stereotyped Japanese in the past Hollywood movie, I think it was well described about cultural spirit. Sometimes stereotype by people from another country awake me where I'm come from. I'm wondering how many people get assimilate Japanese to geisha girl by the movie opening next month¡Ä

Hi!!! I came from Vietnam. The stereotype of the ethnic group is so shy, easygoing and quiet. For example, I didn't believe myself in speaking English even I understood what they were talking. However, when I had lived in L.A, I met many Americans who encouraged me talking more. When I started to talk, I didn't speak fluently. But they told my accent is very clearly. Then I began speak faster, some of Americans couldn't recognize my accent. I think nowadays, the different accent is not a problem, belief is a matter.

This is Ming,
I came from Taiwan. To most of the people, they think Asian are talented in Math. That's a most common stereotype of Asian to others. However, I'm not one of talented Asian in Math, anyhow this is a postive stereotype of Asian. There's another negative stereotype of Asian, which is Asian likes to do "Copy." No matter is legal or illegal, right or wrong, smart or stupid. Like, you can buy those named brand purse in most country in Asia which might only cost 1/10 of the original price. You could see many Asian people dressing up like punk from England. To me, they are just losing their identity, they could become American or European, but just in different skin color.

I am Korean guy, but many people they regard me as Chinese. I just don’t know why. Some of my international friends and teachers treat me as a Chinese, or mixed one. Here are some stereotypes of Korean people. Those are I got from my convenient and close friends and even stranger.
1. All Korean guys are handsome, and all Korean women are beautiful.(You will see that whether it is true or not if you come to Korea. I would say “NO”.
2. Korean people carry lots of cash all the time. (It seems correct. Not for younger, But for older. “Korean people are prior target of robbers in New York,” my aunt said that.)
3. Korean people are smart. (It could be the stereotype of all Asian ethnic groups)
4. Korean guys are good fighter. (I can say “It could be”. Most of Korean people least learn the martial art in their lifetime; in army, at school. )
